An Invitation to Live: Meditations on Death, Dying and Living

Mondays January 6th, 13th & 20th

5:30-7:15pm

at the Vail Athletic Club

Death is a taboo topic in our culture, and yet wisdom traditions teach that turning toward death is one of the primary pathways to a joyful and meaningful life.

This 3-week series will explore the cultivation of forgiveness, compassion and joy; gentle contemplation of aging and death; and the resulting prioritizing of that which we truly value.

Please be prepared to engage in daily meditation homework between sessions. The recommended companion book to this course is The Five Invitations by Frank Ostaseski.

“Death is our friend precisely because it brings us into absolute and passionate presence with all that is here, that is natural, that is love…” -Rainer Maria Rilke

Character: Meditations on Emotional Maturity

At the Vail Athletic Club.

In honor of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., join Karen for an exploration of character, or ethical integrity.  We have all had the experience of being derailed by powerful emotions, and losing our ability to act toward what we value.  This workshop will explore the wisdom teachings of emotional maturity, sharing tools to develop character through skillful navigation of emotional experience.  All are welcome.

Meditations on Time & Being

At the Vail Athletic Club.

Our lives are organized around being in time.  While this is necessary for practical purposes, it also causes stress and disconnection when we minimize our current experience to accommodate the pressure of time.  But what is time?  What is all the yogic hype about the present moment actually referring to?  And what would be the implications of living now?

This workshop is for all levels, no experience is required.

Sometimes we approach our spiritual practice- and our life- as a self-improvement project.  This may sound like a good idea, but the felt experience is of endless conflict.  Instead, great teachers urge us to begin where we are: to accept our current situation as it is.  This may seem like condoning our own shortcomings and the problems of the world.  But in practice, the turning toward our experience with kindness and compassion opens us to the possibility of transformation.

This meditation workshop is for all levels.

“On this sacred path of Radical Acceptance, rather than striving for perfection, we discover how to love ourselves into wholeness.” - Tara Brach
